West Bladen rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 in overtime but fell just short 4-3 in a remarkable men’s soccer game Monday night against league-leading East Bladen.

“This was indeed a heck of a game,” said Knight Coach Phillip Turnage. “We held East to 2 goals at the half. One of those was a reverse goal scored by one of our own defenders.”

“Our guys came out motivated and ready to play in the second half,” stated Coach Turnage. Edgar Pollo Garcia scored on a long goal to put the score at 2-1 with 8 minutes to go in regulation. With five minutes left Keni Verdugo Gomez scored the equalizer that sent the game to overtime.

Five minutes into the first overtime East scored a goal. “We answered a few minutes later when Keni fired in his second equalizing goal of the night,” said Coach Turnage. The first overtime ended in a 3-3 tie.

With only a few minutes to go in the second overtime Pierce Melvin scored on a long shot that proved to be the game-winner. “We put them in a position that they had to definitely earn it,” continued Turnage. “Our guys fought hard and left everything on the field. I am proud of the tenacity of our team and the way that we came back back, nearly earning the W!”
