BOILING SPRING LAKES – West Bladen’s Weston Pidgeon threw for 3 touchdowns Wednesday night as the Knights tied South Brunswick and defeated South Columbus in football scrimmage action.

Against South Brunswick, Pidgeon, a senior quarterback, hurled touchdown passes of 65 yards and 60 yards to junior Shaquille Johnson. “Shaq looked like a high-quality college receiver tonight, “ said Knight Coach Todd Pait. “He can really go get the ball. I didn’t think he had a chance at one of them.”

South Brunswick also scored twice against West. “We gave up two busted coverage touchdowns,” said Pait.

The Knights shutout South Columbus in their scrimmage, and Pidgeon tossed a 15-yard touchdown pass to junior Davon Swindell on a fade route for the only touchdown of the game.

The South Columbus offense features back Dennis Leggett who ran for almost 1,500 yards last season. “Our defense shut the run down all night,” said Coach Pait. “We bottled him (Leggett) up pretty good.”

Overall Coach Pait was pleased and excited with the scrimmage. “It went really well,” he said. “We did some good things, and I was proud of how we competed. We have got to fix the running game, and we will. We have the backs. We just have to tweak some things.”

West Bladen will travel to East Bladen Friday at 6 p.m. for the East Bladen Jamboree. South Robeson and West Columbus will be the other two teams participating.
