DUBLIN – All-Four County Conference linebacker Hunter Pait was honored in a ceremony at West Bladen Friday afternoon for his decision to continue his football career this fall at Wingate University.

Pait will attend Wingate as a preferred walk-on and expects to be redshirted his freshman season.

Some other schools were in the picture for Pait including Catawba, but he really liked Wingate. “I liked the campus. They have a good football program, a good weight program, and a good academic program,” said Pait.

Pait who led the Knights in tackles over the last two seasons is expecting to be moved to defensive end at Wingate. “They are looking to put some weight on him, and once he gets in their weightlifting program, he should really fill out,” said Knight Coach Todd Pait. “He is a hard-worker.”

Hunter says that he will attend Wingate’s spring game and will get his workout schedule then to start preparing for the fall.

Brent and Becky Pait, Hunter’s parents, were pleased with his decision. “We are excited,” said Becky Pait. “It’s not too far, an easy drive and a good school. “We took two tours there and he really loved the atmosphere.”

“They have good facilities and have just built a 60,000 square foot recreation center,” said Brent Pait. Hunter is expected to major in health and physical education hoping to eventually be a teacher and coach or a physical therapist.

Wingate posted an 8-3 record last season and was 5-2 in the South Atlantic Conference under Coach Joe Reich.

On hand for Hunter’s ceremony were his teammates, parents, friends, coaches and his uncle, Russell Dove, who coached him in his first 3 seasons at West Bladen before taking the head football job at South Columbus.
