Allie MarshWest Bladen High School student Allie Marsh attended the FCCLA National Leadership Conference last month in San Diego, California, and was elected to serve as a voting delegate. She attended state officer training sessions.

Marsh, who will be a senior at West Bladen, is North Carolina’s vice president of correspondence for the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. She is the daughter of Rusty and Gail Marsh of Clarkton.

Marsh was accompanied by her advisers, Debra Kinlaw and Gail Marsh, and was among more than 8,500 FCCLA student leaders, members and advisers to attend the conference at the San Diego Convention Center in early July.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Empowered,” which advised participants to make the right choices and commit themselves to making a positive impact within their families, schools, FCCLA, and communities.

“Our National Leadership Conference was a great success this year, with a record-setting attendance,” said Sandy Spavone, executive director of FCCLA. “During the week, we watched thousands of students come together and realize their full potential through competition, career training, and workshops. The relationships developed and training experienced during this conference have empowered students to go into their schools and communities and make a difference, bringing with them the values and passions FCCLA brings to our members.”

FCCLA helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA has more than 160,000 members and more than 5,400 chapters from 48 state associations, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
