CERRO GORDO – West Columbus pulled away with 5 runs in the seventh inning to defeat West Bladen 8-2 Monday night in Three Rivers Conference baseball action.

Dylan Blackwell doubled home Shawn Tyson who had walked to start the inning. Nigel Ceesay walked and Blackwell raced home on a passed ball. L. B. Allen cracked a single that plated Ceesay. Wesley Ward reached base on an error that scored Allen.

Senior Cody Benton pitched 5 innings for West Columbus, struck out 9 and allowed only one unearned run. Ward pitched the final two innings.

Junior Colby White started on the mound for West Bladen and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out six in his 5 innings of work. Junior Logan West pitched a scoreless sixth inning while striking out two. Derrick Long pitched the seventh inning and gave up 5 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks.

Allen homered in the top of the second inning for West Columbus. White was hit by a pitch in the home second, but was forced out by senior Shawn Oxendine. Oxendine stole second, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a passed third strike to tie the game 1-1.

The Vikings went back on top 3-1 in the third when Tyson singled, and Jagger Haynes walloped a 2-run homer.

Senior Dalton Pait belted a single in the Knight sixth inning, and junior Dawson Bryan blasted a triple to rightfield that scored Dalton Pait and trimmed the Viking lead to 3-2.

Dalton Pait batted 2-3 to lead the Knight hitters. Bryan smashed the run-scoring triple, and junior Nolan Bryant hammered a triple. West, junior Braylon Williamson and freshman Devon Strange added one hit each. Dalton Pait and Oxendine scored runs.

Allen batted 2-3 with the homer, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Haynes batted 2-4 and slugged the 2-run homer. Blackwell doubled home a run and scored a run. Tyson singled and scored twice.

The Knights, now 5-8 in the TRC and 6-10 overall, will host East Columbus Tuesday in a make-up game.
