Raleigh, NC — North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Robin Hayes released the following statement in response to the story that former Bladen County Board of Elections Vice Chairman Democrat Jens Lutz engaged in absentee ballot irregularities:
“In our press conference this week, we stated Congressman-Elect Mark Harris should be certified. Now, the evidence shows exactly why Democrats were quick to bury the Harris campaign under a wave of affidavits: they were engaged in irregularities and absentee ballot tampering in an effort to illegally influence the Ninth Congressional District race.
“It appears that Dan McCready was aware of these actions by Jens Lutz and was complicit, even allowing Lutz to file an affidavit on behalf of his campaign. Based on the communication between Lutz and Joshua Malcolm, it’s apparent that Lutz was the medium between the McCready campaign and Malcolm. This collusion was clearly designed to damage the Mark Harris campaign in an attempt to undermine the outcome of the election.
“Congressman-Elect Mark Harris should be certified by the court on Tuesday, and Congress should accept the certification. Dan McCready and Chairman Malcolm must be held accountable and answer what they knew and when they knew it.”
