What Do Our State Leaders Make?

The North Carolina Legislature is led in the Senate by the President Pro Tem of the Senate while the House of Representatives is led by the Speaker of the House. The recently adjourned legislature proved to be one of the longest in North Carolina’s history.

The compensation for the leaders of the Senate and the House is relatively low as compared with other states.

The Speaker of the House and the President Pro Tem of the Senate are paid $38,151 plus $1,414 for monthly expenses.

The Speaker Pro Tem of the House and the Deputy President Pro Tem of the Senate make $21,739 plus a monthly expense of $836.

The Majority and Minority Leaders of the House and Senate make $17,048 and monthly expense of $666.
