4 year old Donicio Noe Mendez of White Oak drowned at White Lake shortly after noon Monday.
The child was with his mother and siblings at the lake.
Sgt Mike Salmon said his office responded to a call for an unresponsive child about 12:30 p.m.
The child was found face down in the water near 2 siblings, and was taken to the shore where CPR began on a pier near Camp Clearwater.
His mother reported she saw him a few minutes before she heard screams and saw the child being pulled from the weather . The mother was with 2 more children on the shore.
EMS transported the child to Bladen County Hospital where he was pronounced dead about 2:30 p.m.
According to Sgt. Salmon, White Lake Police have been in contact with DA Jon David’s office and no charges are expected, however the investigation continues.
