The White Lake Fire Department has opened its doors to accept donations for the people of Western North Carolina affected by the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Following the hurricane’s destruction, communities in the region are struggling to rebuild, and local fire departments have called on others for assistance. White Lake Fire Department, having been aided by Western North Carolina fire departments during previous hurricanes such as Matthew and Florence, is now rallying to return the favor.
In close contact with fire chiefs in Western North Carolina, White Lake is working to gather essential supplies to support recovery efforts. The department is requesting donations of specific items that have been identified as urgently needed by residents and emergency personnel. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to drop off these items at the White Lake Fire Department.
The following items are being accepted:
• Sports drinks (powdered packets)
• Hydration packs (powdered form)
• Baby wipes and diapers (for children and adults)
• Baby formula
• Non-perishable foods
• Bug spray
• Sunscreen
• Plastic utensils, manual can openers
• Trash bags (gallon or contractor size)
• Toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other toiletries
• Pet food (dog and cat)
• Cleaning supplies
• Plastic sheeting/tarps
• Hand sanitizer, sanitizer wipes
• Feminine hygiene products
• Heavy-duty work gloves
• Socks (all sizes, unopened)
These supplies will directly support families and individuals working to recover from the hurricane’s impact. Community members are also asked to keep those affected in their prayers during this challenging time.
However, the department is unable to accept certain items, including:
• Used clothes
• Hazardous materials (HAZMAT)
• Most chemicals
• Flammable items
Donations can be dropped off at the White Lake Fire Department, where volunteers will ensure the supplies reach those in need. This collective effort exemplifies the community spirit of giving back and helping those who once came to the aid of Bladen County during its time of need.
For those unable to donate supplies, prayers and continued support for the residents of Western North Carolina are deeply appreciated. Every bit of help counts as these communities begin to recover and rebuild their lives.
