The Town of White Lake Board of Commissioners met in regular session Tuesday evening, announcing the 39th Annual White Lake Water Festival to be held on May 19-20th.  The parade will be held on Saturday, May 20th at 10:00 a.m.  Everyone is invited to attend all the scheduled events.

Mrs. Kimberly Grey

Mayor Womble introduced Mrs. Kimberly Grey, a new employee in the administrative department.  Mrs. Grey and her husband, Alex live in White Lake.  He works at Harrells Christian Academy.
A request was received from Twilla Allen with the Lumber River Council of Government asked the Board to adopt a proclamation claiming May as Older American Awareness Month.  The Board approved the proclamation acknowledging older adults and the people who serve them as influential and a vital part of the community.
At the April 11th meeting, the Board directed staff to investigate the sufficiency of a voluntary annexation petition submitted by Dennis and Polly Winzeler at 385 Lake Shore Drive in the Waterford Estates Subdivision.  The property was certified and the Board adopted a resolution scheduling the public hearing forTuesday, June 13, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.
Mayor Womble shared correspondence from the Bladen County Schools Bus Feasibility Study for the Turtle Cove Subdivision.  A letter from Dr. Robert Taylor, Superintendent was sent in response to the residents of Turtle Cove’s request to allow school buses to enter the subdivision to load students.  The streets in Turtle Cove are public streets and there are no restrictions on buses entering the subdivision.  A release of liability was requested because of buses having to turn around at the clubhouse location, and extended travel by buses could result in damage to the paved area. However, the home owner’s association was unable to issue a release of liability, resulting in Bladen County Schools not sending buses into the subdivision.
Correspondence was shared from Kate Dixon, Executive Director of the Friends to the Mountains-to-Sea Trail.  She reported that the Coastal Crescent Bill passed the Senate.  This bill officially establishes the Coast Crescent Trail route goes directly through White Lake.  Mayor Womble expressed the Town’s excitement about its economic potential and the visibility that it will bring to the lake.
An update on lake water quality was given by Mayor Womble.  Kent White with the NC Division of Water Resources from the NC Division of Water Quality was on sight on April 25th to review the files of the history and studies of White Lake to determine what is causing the ph level of the lake to change and coloration issues.  Mayor Womble spoke extensively with Mr. White and believes that he understands our concerns and is committed to helping us find a solution.
The municipal complex will be closed Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day.  A public works employee will be on call to respond to any water/sewer emergencies.
