The Town of White Lake Board of Commissioners met in regular session Tuesday evening.  Mayor Womble recognized Darrell Spaulding, Jr. for his completion of the Intermediate Law Enforcement training.  Mayor Womble commended his efforts and thanked him for his service as a Police Officer.

Mayor Womble introduced Amber Glisson to the Board.  She joined the administrative team in September.  Amber is training to fill the accountant position when Deputy Finance Officer Kathy Iwerks retires in December.

For the 2nd year in a row, the Town of White Lake received the Government Award during the Southeastern Health Regional Community Health Awards.  Mayor Womble presented the Trophy to the Board.

In administrative matters, the Board approved Utility Releases and Tax Releases for September and October; renewed the ATM lease agreement between the Town and the SECU for 3 years; reappointed Ronald Inman to the Planning and Zoning Board of Adjustment; approved overtime compensation for exempt employees during Hurricane Matthew event; and approved a budget amendment for minor repairs at the Fire Department.

East Bladen and West Bladen High Schools are offering students ages 16 and 17 the opportunity to participate in a Junior Volunteer Firefighter’s course.  Three students in the community are taking the course and have expressed an interest in serving as a “Junior Volunteer” firefighter on the White Lake Fire Department.  Mr. Jay Howell with Code3 Insurance, confirmed the Town is required to provide workers’ compensation on the junior volunteers if they are responding as a part of the Town’s fire department.  The Board authorized the Fire Department to participate in the program at an annual cost of $65 per junior volunteer.  Chief Brennan noted that once the student has graduated from the Firefighter 1 and 2 program and reaches the age of 18, they are eligible to apply for a full time position with any fire department in NC.

Tonight’s meeting was adjourned to Tuesday, December 6th at 6:30 p.m. to enable the Board to meet with Southeastern Regional Health representatives, Chris Adams, and Mark Bacon to continue the discussion of the expansion of Southeastern ~ White Lake medical facility.
