During the Tuesday evening White Lake Board of Commissioners meeting, Police Chief Bruce Smith introduced the department’s newest officer. Officer Bert Harris joined the force on December 23, 2019 and comes from the Wilson Police Department. Harris (pictured) is a resident of White Lake.

Mayor Goldston Womble gave an update on the lake water management project. A public meeting was held last week to discuss lake water management. Dr. Diane Lauritsen and staff will be meeting with the State Parks this week to determine how they may assist the town with waterfowl issues and water flow. The Hydrilla TAC will meet on the 14th.

An Executive Summary of the Lake Water project is being written by Womble and Lauritsen and will be completed soon. This document is being prepared to give a “layman’s” description of the history of the lake and the changes that have occurred over the last few years. This summary will be shared with the public and published on whitelakewatch.com informational web site.

In administrative matters, the Board approved January Tax Releases, Tax Refunds, and Utility Releases; approved advertisement of 2019 tax liens; authorized participation in the 2020 OSFM grant application for fire equipment; approved participation in the county-wide stormwater drainage grant aplication; approved changes in Inmate Labor Contract; approved capital project ordinance amendment for Multi-Use Path Phase I; and adopted ordinance for Road Closure for Water Festival Parade on May 16th.
