Whiteville’s MacKenzie Gore, the No. 3 prospect on Major League Baseball Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list, has been selected to the National League roster for the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game to be played July 7 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

MLB Network will televise the game at 7 p.m. that will kick-off the All-Star Game festivities on the same field that will host the Home Run Derby on July 8 and the Major League All-Star Game on July 9.

Gore is considered the top left-handed pitching prospect in the game. Drafted No. 3 overall in the first round of the 2017 major league draft by the San Diego Padres, Gore was plagued by blisters on his pitching hand in 2018.

This season, Gore has rebounded to post a 1.12 earned run average for the Padres’ Lake Elsinore Storm team in the Class A Advanced California League. Opponents are batting a meager .138 against Gore, and he averages 12.6 strikeouts per 9 innings while walking just 2.1 batters and posting a 7-1 record.
