Although Bladen County was not under any winter storm advisories as of 6 p.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service is forecasting a wintry mix beginning Monday afternoon. Ice is expected to more of a problem than snow in Bladen County, based on current forecasts.

Monday’s forecast calls for a slight chance of rain and snow before 3 p.m. Monday, then a chance of sleet after 4 p.m., although little accumulation is expected, the National Weather Service says. Monday’s high temperature is expected to be near 36 degrees with wind chill values as low as 10.

Freezing rain and rain is expected to continue overnight Monday and into Tuesday afternoon before becoming a mixture of snow and sleet later Tuesday afternoon. The snow may continue until early Tuesday evening. Although little accumulation is expected, the mixture may make for hazardous driving conditions.

While the snow, sleet and rain is forecast to be gone by Wednesday morning, temperatures are not expected to climb above 40 degrees until Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Thursday’s high temperature is expected to be 31 degrees with a low of 12.

Cumberland, Harnett and Sampson counties were placed under a winter storm watch about 4 p.m. Sunday while counties in the Triangle region of the state were under a winter storm warning. A watch means there’s a chance for winter weather while a warning means the winter weather is either occurring or likely to occur.
