Junior Alexa Hernandez scored one goal and assisted on the other goal to lead East Bladen to a 2-0 Four County Conference Women’s Soccer victory over visiting West Bladen Tuesday night.
Hernandez snapped a scoreless tie late in the first half by firing in a goal from about 8 yards out.

The score remained 1-0 until the final minute of the game when Hernandez sent a cross to sophmore Cassie Hill on the back post, and Hill knocked in the goal for the 2-0 final margin.

“We played a decent game,” said East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor. “But I felt could’ve had a little more edge as far as winning 50/50 balls and applying pressure. Not to take away from West because they played a good game. They played more defensively and for the most part handled our pressure well.”

“We had really good looks that didn’t go in,” continued Raynor. “Their keeper is a heck of a player.  She’s the main reason the score line was so low. She made save after save and kept them in the game. They are well coached and played a heck of a game defensively.”

“Ayana Avery played well for us in the midfield along with Lexi Mendell,” noted Coach Raynor. “Madison Smith had a great game in the back with Claire (Campbell)  and Jiovana Vazquez. Our backline made sure to not let anything behind them.  Kathryn Cole played excellent. She didn’t have to make any saves but she made several great clears to send the ball back into our forwards.”

East Bladen, now 3-1 in league play and 5-2 overall, hosts Clinton tonight (Wednesday) at 6 p.m. West Bladen is idle until after the Easter Break.
