FAIRMONT – West Bladen’s women’s tennis team won a marathon 8-1 non-conference season-opening match Monday that took 5 hours to complete due to breaks for water and to allow the players to cool off.

“Even though we were able to win, I was very disappointed with our style of play tonight,” said West Bladen Coach Jeff Atkinson. “We had too many unforced errors on our ground strokes and our serving was terrible. We have got to do a better job. Just too many mistakes and lack of mental toughness, but we were lucky to escape with the win.”

The Knights will host Fairmont Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
