Woody White for CongressWilmington attorney Woody White announced Tuesday that he will not seek the congressional seat currently held by Rep. David Rouzer (R).  He had announced earlier that he was considering a re-run for the US House of Representatives.

He lost in a three way race in the 2014 Republican primary.  Rouzer received 53 percent of the vote compared to 40 percent for White.  Chris Andrade received 7 percent.

In his release White said, “Over the last few months, Tammie and I have received calls from people all over the district, state and the country encouraging us to run again.  Because we care so deeply for our country we have done our due diligence by listening to them, and talking about  it as a family.  We have concluded that the timing is not right for another fight right now.  Who knows what the future holds”

White, an Elizabethtown native, is currently serving his 4th year as New Hanover County Commissioner.  He did not announce today whether or not he will seek reelection to that office, but left the door open.

His press video did include some advice for Rouzer.  “I encourage David to fight for us – fight for the district and country.  Stand up, be heard, and make a difference.  It’s not enough to simply go through the motions and work only on reelection.  Do something big.  Lead us.”
