All people have an identity. Identity is known as those characteristics and traits that distinguish us from others. Anonymity is the condition in which the identity of a person is not recognized.

The term anonymity comes from the Greek anonymous. The word in Greek refers to “nameless.” Anonymity is the action of not having a name, being unknown. In the literature of the Middle Ages, some writers acquired the theory of anonymity. Back then, the writers did not intend to add fame and recognition to their work. Similarly, some theologians affirmed that their progress only belonged to the Creator; that is why they remained anonymous.

Anonymity is a well-known concept in various social spheres. Within the literature, a writer signs his work with the word anonymous. The aim to remain anonymous in the literature is due to several reasons. Fundamentally, not knowing the person’s name who wrote a text can avoid problems and disagreements of a political, social, and religious nature.

On the other hand, anonymous witnesses are frequently used in police cases. In order to find out answers to crimes, the authorities must investigate the facts. One of the best ways to analyze is to ask for witnesses. However, transferring information from a witness to an authority puts the security of the witness at risk. Generally, the identity of witnesses remains incognito for their protection.

One of the most popular fields of the concept of anonymity is usually social networks.

Currently, we make immense use of social networks. Thanks to the opportunities that technology offers us, we can express our ideas and maintain communication with people worldwide. Moreover, the media has become an indispensable tool in everyday life; We use the cell phone from waking up with the alarm to checking messages, making calls, and updating applications. Over time, social media has formed a strong communication relationship in the world.

Nevertheless, the misuse of social media has become a global problem. Taking advantage of and safely managing social networks requires learning from them and establishing general knowledge points.

Anonymity is the character of non-recognition of an identity. Unlike the physical world, the anonymous condition on social media is easy and accessible. Several users on the Internet use anonymity to leave no trace of their activity and browsing the web.

Anonymous activity on the networks is nowadays a hotly debated topic. A certain percentage of Internet users remain anonymous to keep their information private and avoid identity theft. Anonymity is a right of Internet users. This right allows you to express ideas, browse the web, communicate, among many other activities. Maintaining anonymity is the right not to be identified.

On the other hand, anonymity has encouraged people to commit crimes online. When interacting through a profile, the chances of assuming responsibilities are slim. Various users hide their identities behind fictitious profiles for manipulation and blackmail. Hacking is one of the cyber crimes of most considerable concern. According to the New York Times, “Hacking has become a widely used tool for political manipulation, oppression, and sheer economic gain.” It is essential to be alert and be aware of what we do on social networks.
