An essential part of enjoying life is sharing atmospheres of harmony and happiness with the people around us. A convivial person has the ability to make happy and pleasant moments from different spaces.

The term convivial is an adjective that originates from the Latin word convivium. In its primeval meaning, the word convivium stood for “a feast.” This term was coined around the 17th century to define the significant amount of supplies served during celebrations, such as food and drinks. Nowadays, the word convivial is employed to represent friendly and lively environments. Moreover, “convivial” may be used when describing someone agreeable and social. Some examples of the use of this word are following:

  • The front desk people are always convivial.
  • All people should strive to be convivial; that way, we all could enjoy the fortune of having each other.
  • A convivial person is someone who stands up for others.
  • My friend is always the party’s life; he is quite convivial.
  • I went to a convivial meeting yesterday; they were pretty welcoming and had a great attitude.

According to its grammatical use, convivial consists of four syllables (con-viv-i-al), and its accurate pronunciation is kun-viv-ee-ul. Some related terms for this word are sociable, likable, warm, amiable, friendly, pleasant, enjoyable, and delightful. On the other hand, the antonyms of the word convivial are apathetic, gloomy, cheerless, disagreeable, unhappy, and dull.

Convivial environments make people feel welcome and, in many cases, lift their spirits. Part of learning to live together is making a small effort to create convivial environments with others.

El término agradable es un adjetivo que se origina de la palabra latina gratus. En su significado primitivo, la palabra gratus significaba “bien recibido.” Hoy en día, la palabra agradable se utiliza para representar ambientes amigables y animados. Además, “agradable” se puede usar para describir a alguien que es jovial y sociable. Algunos ejemplos del uso de esta palabra son los siguientes:

  • La gente de recepción siempre es agradable.
  • Todas las personas deben esforzarse por ser agradables; así todos podríamos disfrutar de la fortuna de tenernos unos a otros.
  • Una persona agradable es alguien que defiende a los demás.
  • Mi amigo es siempre la vida de la fiesta; es bastante agradable.
  • Fui a una agradable reunión ayer; fueron bastante acogedores y tenían una gran actitud.

Según su uso gramatical, convivial consta de cuatro sílabas (con-viv-i-al).
