A photo is worth a thousand words. The ability to capture images has transcended beyond the sharing of ideas. In turn, the art of taking pictures has become a lifestyle around the world.
Photography is a technique and media for obtaining images. Thanks to chemical reactions inside cameras, it is possible to capture different types of scenarios visually. When the photographer takes the image capture, it is projected on a physical or digital medium. Some similar media are film and television. However, photography is characterized by being static.
Two words in Greek, foto, and graphia, make up the currently known term of photography. The Greek word for foto refers to light. On the other hand, the word graphia means writing. Photography, at first, refers to the composition of art through the use of light.
Light is the most significant incident when talking about photography. When taking a photo, the light is responsible for showing and highlighting the components of the picture. In the same way, light can become a beneficial tool to obtain volume, shape, and color with a bit of detail. All photos need light; otherwise, they would be a black background.
Beyond the light, converting a scene into a photograph depends on other secondary factors. Commonly, a photographer must think about what he wants to convey or communicate with the picture he is taking. There are multiple purposes when taking a photo. Some of these purposes are for advertising, a report, as a visual display, or it can also be a purpose for entertainment.
Creating through photography is a highly recognized and admired art globally. In addition to art, photography is also considered a visual language because it can communicate ideas and emotions. Through photos, we can go back in time and remember moments. Even when we see photographs in which we were not present, we have the chance to learn about those moments. Multiple historical events are better understood today thanks to the pictures that people took during the event. Likewise, photography can become a travel ticket to see the world. Thanks to technological advances, we have the opportunity to get to know countries and cultures from our phones.
The scope of photography has added one more option to know the world that surrounds us. In addition, photographing allows us to express different concepts of all kinds through an image.
