Being polite is one of the most significant virtues of a human being. Education and good behavior towards other people is a value.

The term polite comes from the Latin politus. Some concepts similar to courtesy are manners, civility, education, manners, and good manners. The opposite of polite behavior is rude behavior. Back in time, the educated and well-behaved person received the so-called polite. Back then, society established some distinctive aspects of politeness. Some of them are:

  • Show consideration towards our environment, towards others, and towards ourselves.
  • Use tact and empathy to understand others and know how to communicate with them.
  • Follow the rules of social etiquette.

By using courtesy, we also go to the apprehension of social values. Some of these virtues are attention, simplicity, friendship, honesty, will, empathy and compassion.

Society has set limits on human behavior to maintain a healthy coexistence. A set of rules and regulations assumes these limitations. The use or practice of society’s management refers to polite behavior. Over time, these rules have turned into customs. Likewise, courtesy has taken an essential role in society’s cultural phenomenon.

Politeness is generally associated with the way we relate. Small details such as maintaining an appropriate tone of voice or taking care of punctuality are factors that differentiate a courteous person from a rude person.

The courteous manifestation of our behavior favors understanding and assertive communication.

In everyday life, we usually interact with different types of people. It is on all these occasions that we have the opportunity to put our politeness into practice. Greeting, gratitude, and empathy are small acts of courtesy.

Standards of politeness are based on respect and consideration.

Throughout history, the use of courtesy has been misunderstood. Some people often associate this term with social status or the amount of wealth a person is. However, this sample of culture is not necessarily linked to a type of person. Today, education is a globally accepted feature.

Having good manners lays the foundations of respect for yourself and others. Here are some examples of politeness:

  • Treat others as you would like them to treat you.
  • Show a pleasant tone when speaking.
  • Learn to listen.
  • Avoid irrational arguments.
  • Take care of punctuality.
  • Keep calm and sanity.
  • Offer a greeting, a “thank you,” and a “please.”
