Work on the new fire truck for the Elizabethtown Fire Department is beginning to enter its final stages.  Members of the fire department and the community have been eagerly following the progress of the construction of the new fire truck as it is being built. It is anticipated the new truck will arrive at the department later in April.

The truck is under construction in Nesquehoning, Pa. The new truck will carry 1,000 gallons of water and can pump up to 1,500 gallons of water per minute. The truck will also have rescue capabilities.

Chief Nick West said the fire department is scheduled to travel to the facility on April 25 and to have a final inspection of the truck at the assembly plant on April 26.

“It is just for us to go over the specs one last time and make sure the truck meets the specs,” said West.

West said they would be taking a certified mechanic with them to also go over the fire truck checking for such things as loose screws, making sure the doors are all aligned properly, there are no issues with the mechanics of the truck. West said it is better to find any mechanical issues on the truck while it is at the plant and the company can simply put it back on the assembly line and make the necessary changes or adjustments.

“It is an entirely custom truck and we want to make sure everything is as it should be,” said West.
