Elizabethtown, NC – After what seemed like the spelling of more than 100 words and over 11 rounds Janae Wright, a student at Elizabethtown Middle School came out on top April 23 as the winner of the 2015 Sampson-Bladen Oil/Bladen County Schools county level spelling bee, correctly spelling the word “reciprocating”. Her win earned her $100.
Whether by coincidence or irony, Janae battled back and forth for the 1st place win over her teammate from Elizabethtown Middle School Jason Graham. “It was like watching a tennis match,” said Superintendent Robert Taylor. “The two went volley for volley on words for what seemed like an eternity.”
The second place finisher was Jason Graham from Elizabethtown Middle School and earning $75.
The third place finisher was Ethan Fletcher from Clarkton School of Discovery and earning $50.
Other participants were:
Bladenboro Middle – Hunter Cimbolo and Ocean Woody
Clarkton School of Discovery – Sarah Meares
East Arcadia School – Sterling Thomas and Ashanti Munn-Goins
Tar Heel Middle – Tyler Marcoullier and Emily Campos
