Here are three things to know for Friday, Dec. 30:
1. Bowl Games: Today. N.C. State plays Maryland in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte. Kickoff is scheduled for noon and the game will be televised on ESPN. Among the other games today, it will be Notre Dame vs. South Carolina in the Gator Bowl at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN and Clemson vs. Tennessee in the Orange Bowl at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
2. First Day Hike: Sunday, 2 p.m., Jones Lake State Park, 4117 NC 242 North, Elizabethtown. Join a park ranger and start the new year learning about the geological mysteries of the Carolina Bays. Information: 910-588-4550. (READ MORE)
3. High School Basketball: Today, 2 p.m., Bladen Offroad Christmas Tournament, West Bladen High School. Four boys’ games. West Bladen plays Dillon Christian at 2 p.m. The championship game between Wilmington Laney and North Brunswick is scheduled to tip at 8 p.m. Admission is $6 each day with no passes out. (SPORTS)
