Thoughts While Shaving

Thanksgiving 2017 is just hours away, schools will close, many of our industries will pause, roads crowded and retail outlets prepare for one of their busiest shopping days of the year.  For this retiree, time to ‘hunker down’ with family and friends.

I am thankful for so much, thankful that I survived another year, that despite one obit earlier this year for a Robert Hester and a plane crash involving another, this Robert Hester is safe and sound.  Incidentally, both are/were good friends.

I am thankful that the stand-off yesterday near Dublin ended peacefully, despite some tense moments.  No injuries, during the ordeal. Hopefully the young man will be OK and law enforcement officers can return to a more normal routine and some time off with their ‘love ones’.

Incidentally, a BladenOnline reporter was on the scene with updates throughout the day, and our readers were following with great interest.  58,581 page views were recorded, our second most ever in a single day, second only to the 59,717 on May 17, 2017, the day the West Bladen teacher was arrested and charged with a sex crime with a student.

We have lost too many young folks recently, including 2 last weekend in a single vehicle accident near Myrtle Beach, SC.

Turkey is thawing, collards are cooking, pecans are picked out for the pie, final cleaning just about complete, trash has been deposited properly, more leaves on the ground, looks like thanksgiving season and all are hopefully safe and sound.  Looking forward to Thanksgiving Day, a big feast with family and friends and some football.  Counting my many blessings, one by one.  And, wish the same for everyone.

North Carolina was where you could have Thanksgiving and feel like it was Thanksgiving.  David H. Murdock

What are you thankful for?
