Hayley Hall of Bladenboro and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, has been officially awarded and recognized as a Buckley Scholar. Hall is at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she is a senior graduating from the School of Dentistry in May 2018.
To qualify as a Buckley Scholar recipient, a student must perform a minimum of 300 hours of community service, participate in a number of leadership trainings, and maintain a high GPA in good standing with the University. Buckley students over the years have contributed millions of hours of service to Orange and Durham counties, UNC, statewide in North Carolina, in various underprivileged areas of the United States, and worldwide. Buckley students provided hundreds of hours of service to neighboring Robeson County in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
Buckley students receive their own award ceremony during graduation, and will receive a cord of distinction and the Chancellor’s seal on their diploma. Some of the organizations Hayley has served during her tenure at UNC are: UNC Hospitals, the Susan Tillis Foundation, UNC Dental School and its free dental clinics, Durham Habitat for Humanity, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, the NC Dental Society and its free Missions of Mercy Clinics, and others. Hayley is a 2014 honors graduate of West Bladen High School, and attended Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, before entering the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Fall of 2017.
