The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Specialized Training Unit and K-9 Section presented a training event for the students of the Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy. The training session took place on Saturday at Jones Lake State Park.

The students are Cadets enrolled in the JROTC program. “They (the Cadets) were required to navigate thick woodland areas of the park in order to learn some of the principles of teamwork and patience to accomplish the goal of moving with stealth and remaining unobserved by spotters,” said Sgt. Gary Turlington.

Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker fully supports outreach programs such as these because it gives us an opportunity to interact with young citizens in a positive manner and show them our support for the community in which we serve, said Turlington.

At the conclusion of the woodland exercise the students, attending deputies, and park ranger staff had lunch with the Cadets.  The two top Cadets that won today’s event are Cadet Keyanna Cann and Cadet Matthew Mckoy.
