RALEIGH – State officials will shut down online services of the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles this weekend to upgrade its system.

The upgrades will occur from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday for vehicle registration services and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday for driver license services. DMV’s online services will resume as usual once the upgrades are complete.

During the upgrades, the DMV will also conduct routine maintenance. The routine maintenance will involve implementing a registration stop for the new Passing Stopped School Bus law. Vehicle registration services will be blocked for any driver that fails to pay the penalty for passing a stopped school bus. City and county school boards will notify the DMV when a registration stop should be issued or removed.
