Anyone who has suffered through a tragedy in life knows it is better to give than to receive.
Volunteers are needed at the Bladen County Disaster Relief Distribution Site at 108 South Cypress Street in Elizabethtown from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. daily, Monday through Saturday, to help those who have recently suffered tragedy.
During the first two weeks the relief site was housed at Vertical Church. United Way of Bladen County and Foundation Church partnered together to house the new Disaster Relief Distribution Site at 108 South Cypress Street in Elizabethtown.
Pastor Jason Williams with Foundation Church said in the past four days over 4,400 people have received supplies and food donations from the center. He also reported supplies such as hygiene products, cleaning supplies and nonperishable food items are running low.
Numerous churches and civic organizations are assisting in the disaster relief efforts. However, donations and volunteers are still needed.
Rev. Darrell Copeland with Wesley’s Chapel reminded people, “This is not a sprint, it is a marathon.”
The county will receive funding for volunteer hours according to officals, therefore when someone volunteers they are giving back to Bladen County in two ways. First, volunteers help with actual physical labor. Then the county receives monetary funding from the state and federal government for the amount of time volunteers recorded serving.
If anyone needs assistance with food or supplies the distribution site will be distributing the products from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday at 108 South Cypress Street in Elizabethtown.
Don’t forget – Volunteers are needed at the site from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. daily, Monday through Saturday.
