Bladen Weather….HOT

National Weather Service, Wilmington, NC
An extended period of high heat and humidity begins today in Bladen and surrounding counties.

The combination of an upper ridge blossoming across the southeast…and Bermuda high pressure anchored offshore…will create hot temperatures and high humidity for the next several days.  A few record highs may be reached or broken in the area during this time.

High temperatures today will reach the lower to mid 90s and this will make it feel as if it is around 100 degrees for much of the afternoon…up to 102 degrees.  Even higher temperatures are expected early next week…with thermometers likely reaching 95 to 100 degrees.  Even the beaches will exceed the 90 degree mark.  Heat index values are expected to reach or slightly exceed 105 degrees for at least portions of the area Monday through Wednesday.

The National Weather Service will issue a heat advisory when widespread heat index values reach or exceed 105 values.  Excessive heat warnings are issued for heat index values of 110 degrees or higher.

Since this is the first heat wave of the year…it is important to remember your heat preparedness actions since spending significant time outside can be dangerous.  Plan any outdoor activities early or late in the day.  When outside…drink plenty of water to stay hydrated…wear light colored clothing…and take breaks in the shade.  Remember pets and livestock as well…ensure that they have plenty of water and shaded ventilation.  Never leave pets unattended in a vehicle.
