FAYETTEVILLE – The Blood Donor Center is still critical for type O blood. The need stems from a nationwide shortage of the blood type.

Type O negative blood is the universal blood type and can be given to any patient during emergencies. The blood type is also used for babies in the neonatal care unit and for trauma patients. A single trauma patient can deplete the center’s entire on-hand supply.

The Blood Donor Center also needs all other blood types, due to traditional summer shortages. The shortages are caused when more people are on vacation and students are out of school.

Blood donated to the center stays in the community and helps saves lives locally in Bladen, Cumberland, Harnett and Hoke counties.

The Blood Donor Center Bloodmobile will be at On the Border Restaurant on Thursday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. BladenOnline.com and Cape Fear Heating & Cooling, LLC will also host a blood drive in July at the office located at 8849 U.S. Hwy 701 South.

Donors can also give blood at the Blood Donor Center today, Wednesday, June 26, and Friday, June 28. Located at 3357 Village Drive, Suite 150, Fayetteville, the center will be closed Thursday for the On the Border blood drive.
