State Farmers Market will host Blueberry Day, Thursday, June 18. North Carolina blueberry growers will celebrate a banner crop at this year’s Blueberry Day at the State Farmers Market. Guest can enjoy free blueberry cobbler topped with ice cream prepared by the State Farmers Market Restaurant, and learn more about the state’s $71 million blueberry industry. Farmers will also offer freshly picked blueberries for sale.

June is Blueberry Month in North Carolina. The state is the seventh-largest producer of blueberries in the nation, with growers producing 48.5 million pounds of berries in 2014. About 75 percent of the state’s crop is sold fresh at grocery stores, farmers markets and roadside stands.

Bladen County is the largest producer of blueberries in North Carolina and the home of an annual Blueberry Festival that was held recently in the Ammon community.

Saturday, the 12th Annual North Carolina Blueberry Festival will be held in downtown Burgaw. About 30,000 people are expected to attend.
