Bladen County Dixie Youth Pre-Majors team lost twice yesterday in Louisiana and will be heading home. After two wins, the team lost to South Carolina and a close game to Alabama. Congratulations to all concerned, players and coaches Les Hill and Kendall Kelly, all involved with the team. They end their play 2-2 in the Dixie Pre-Majors World Series. Memories will last a lifetime. Check our Sports page for details.

Many followed the team as their games were televised, rooting them on. They made us proud. Think of the hundreds, thousands of youngsters around the nation who would have given their all to participate. Pray for safe travel for all as they head home.

The Elizabethtown AAA (Minors) team, and supporters will be leaving soon headed to Rustin, Louisiana. Their tournament begins this weekend. Hope those games are televised as well.

Some of my fondest memories are of my two sons and many of their friends and acquaintances playing Little League, many, many years ago … and I had the pleasure of being one of their coaches. Both now 50+ years old. Still have scorebooks that I enjoy scanning from time to time. Wonderful memories!

July 2019 coming to a close. … A little cooler outside, average high temp for August is 87 compared to 89 for July. Average low is a couple of degrees cooler as well, 67 drops to 65. Average rainfall for August is 5.8 inches compared to 5.5 in July. First frost about the last few days of October to early November. ‘Bout hob-gobblin time.

Sunsets are proof that no matter what happens, every day can end beautifully.

Smell the sea, and feel the sky. Let your soul and spirit fly.

Sky above our heads and sand beneath our feet. Life is good.
