It has been 57 years since Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave the “I have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., but the dream carries on across the nation today. Many proved the dream is still alive this morning as they lined the street in Elizabethtown, North Carolina for the annual Martin Luther King Junior Day Parade.

Leading the great procession was Retired Army Veteran and Educator, Deacon Harold Ford, the Grand Marshal of the parade. Following behind the Grand Marshal was the Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy Corps of Cadets presenting the colors, and marching in step. Businesses, clubs, churches, civic organizations, classic cars, elected officials, motorcycles, and many more participated in the parade.

The parade had over 100 entries participating and the spectators were too many to count. The crowd stretched the full length of the parade route; from Main Street down through Poplar Street people were celebrating.

Mr. Arthur A. Bullock, Co-Chairman and Ms. Natasha B. Cromartie, Co- Chairwoman of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Parade Committee closed the parade out walking with smiles and waving at the crowd.

The parade celebrates the life and accomplishments of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who promoted Civil Rights through nonviolent civil disobedience. The theme for the 2020 parade was “We Are All One Humanity”, a subject that Dr. King often contemplated and preached about.

Additional celebrations at other venues throughout the county were held on Monday offering food, entertainment, banquets, cook-outs, and speeches.
