On Saturday, February 22, 2020 Boy Scout Troop 622 held a Court of Honor for Ashton Robeson, the first Eagle Scout in 37 years from the Dublin area. More than 65 people were in attendance for the ceremony held at Dublin First Baptist Church.
Ashton is the son of Kevin and Thelma Robeson of Cape Owen Manor in Elizabethtown. He earned his Eagle Scout in November 2019, according to his mother.
However, in the Boy Scouts of America a court of honor is the formal troop ceremony held upon conferment of Eagle Scout rank. The ceremony allows Scouts and their families and friends to come together to celebrate the Scout’s achievements.
Ashton took the solemn oath of the Eagle Scout led by the first inducted Eagle Scout from Troop 622, Mr. Walter Bullard.
Bullard, who earned his Eagle Scout in 1957 called Ashton to center stage as he said, “Your legacy in Scouting goes way back. It started with your grandad, Scoutmaster.”
“You have a family who is sold out on Scouting. You have a brother who is also an Eagle Scout. You should be proud of your legacy.” Bullard told Ashton.
Since 1912, the Eagle Scout rank has represented a milestone without an equal, and the “Eagle Scout” is not just an award, but it becomes part of your being, Bullard explained to Ashton.
Bullard challenged Ashton to encourage other Scouts “to go for the Eagle” as he reported the statistics of Scouts achieving the Eagle Scout award.
After Ashton pledged his oath as an Eagle Scout he received other awards and kind remarks from those in attendance.

“Ashton was always mellow and laid back, but he never backed down from a challenge,” Ashton’s Scoutmaster Alex Hursey said.
“We couldn’t be prouder than to have Ashton as our first Eagle Scout in 37 years,” Hursey added, “Ashton Robeson has persevered because that’s what Eagles do.”
Hursey presented Ashton with a plaque featuring an Eagle Feather on behalf of Troop 622.
Ashton refurbished the bridge at the Brown’s Creek Bike Park and Nature Park in Elizabethtown for his Eagle project and was presented with a plaque from the Town of Elizabethtown in recognition of his hard work.
Ashton also received a plaque from Boy Scouts of America for his Eagle Award.
Eagle Scout, Channing Robeson, tied the Eagle Scout neckerchief to honor his brother’s new award.
Before the ceremony ended, Ashton presented his parents and his Scout leaders with gifts. Pastor Jason Lee closed in prayer after quoting 1 Timothy 4:12, Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
Family and friends gathered to celebrate in the church’s fellowship hall after the ceremony.
