A Bladen County Schools employee has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Public Relations and Information Officer Valerie Newton.

Identities of people who test post for COVID-19 are not announced because of privacy laws.

“We are taking extra steps to ensure their safety after learning (Friday) that an employee tested positive for COVID-19,” Newton said in a news release.

The Bladen County Health and Human Services Department is investigating the case, Newton said. Anyone known to have been in close contact with the infected person will be notified by the health department.

“We are aware of no other (school) employee who has been tested or is awaiting test results,” Newton said.

“We will continue to work with Dr. Terri Duncan, the Bladen County Health director, to follow recommendations as to proactive steps we can take to ensure the safety of all our employees.”
