According to Prevent Child Abuse America evidence shows that children’s early experiences impact them throughout life—positively and negatively.

KPJR Films, creators of a film, Resilience about child abuse states, “Researchers have recently discovered a dangerous biological syndrome caused by abuse and neglect during childhood. As the new documentary Resilience reveals, toxic stress can trigger hormones that wreak havoc on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at a greater risk for disease, homelessness, prison time, and early death. While the broader impacts of poverty worsen the risk, no segment of society is immune.”

Grace Thompson with the Prevent Child Abuse Project in Bladen, Columbus, and Robeson Counties, reported her team is working on a community prevention action plan, as well as the environmental scan of the area. Grace is seeking parents willing to take a survey to help with the project. Rewards will be given to the first few parents who complete the survey. According to Grace, the reward is a 10-dollar VISA gift card. Overall, this survey is aimed to assess the parent’s view of Bladen County and the resources offered.
