North Tower played with gusto for Bladen County folks last night in the second of four Summer Sounds concerts at the Elizabethtown Farmer’s Market, brought to you by the Elizabethtown-White Lake Chamber of Commerce. The band North Tower has been playing together for 35 years, and traveled from Raleigh to play for us from 6-9 PM.

The inclimate weather inconvenienced the set up of the venue, but when it was time for the music to start, everything was in place and the crowd was large. The Chamber estimates 350-400 people attended the concert. “I’m very pleased with the turnout we had,” said Dawn Maynard, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce. “Some people may have stayed away because of the weather, but there are two more concerts this summer and we expect our crowds to grow, weather permitting.”

Cape Fear Chicken & Bar-B-Q added corn dogs, hot dogs, and chili fries to the menu they served at the concert, along with plenty of chicken fingers and their famous Bar-B-Q sandwiches. The radio station, Cool 105.3 with D.J. Darrell set up a live broadcast of the event.

The first 2 hours of the concert enjoyed fair weather as the rain held off until 8 PM. Even after the rain started, most people stayed to enjoy more of the fun because they were in the mood to dance, and dance they did, in the rain, as the band played on. “We have received such a positive response from the community,” Maynard said, “we want to make this Summer Sounds Concert series an annual event.”
