“From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the continent.” – Winston Churchill, former British Prime Minister.
Those words, to the many people affected by World War 2, showed that things could only get worse throughout the Cold War and also showed the cultural start of the world at the time. West Germany had just formed and split one of the largest producers of materials in the world into two completely different states, and controlled by two completely different countries and ideals.
Churchill’s words eventually became true, because on August 13, 1961 due to the construction of the Berlin Wall and the physical divide of Eastern and Western Germany.
Churchill is considered one of the most notable and one of the pillars of the Cold War Era due to his speeches, but also his leadership during the time of crisis and the bonds he made with the US and the Soviet Union, causing relative peace for a while.
