Three Things to KnowGood morning! 3 things to know for Sunday, August 23

1. The kids are sad and the parents are happy as public schools open Monday in Bladen County. Please don’t forget that school buses will be on the road beginning around dawn and again late in the afternoon. As a driver rushing to work or an appointment, it’s easy to get frustrated. All of us have. But, don’t pass a stopped school bus. It’s bad enough that you may get a ticket. What also may happen if you don’t stop could be far, far worse than a traffic ticket. And you’ll have to live with the memory for the rest of your life.

2. The first week of the high school football season is in the history books. Bladen County’s two teams won by a combined score of 82-6. It’s not going to be like that every week, of course, but it was a great way to start things off.

3. Today is Rudolfo Alfonzo Raffaelo Piero Filibert Guglielmi De Valentina D’Antonguolla Day … really. Or, perhaps, better known as Valentino Day, which commemorates the death of actor Rudolph Valentino, who died Aug. 23, 1926. For the younger folks, Valentino was a silent screen star known as the “Latin Lover.”

And now you know.
