Marian Owen McGovern passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022. Marian was born on October 3, 1956 in Bangor, North Wales at St. David’s Hospital to the late Meirion Charles Owen and Olive Beech Owen.
Raised in Bangor, North Wales, Marian loved animals, especially horses, and working at the local riding stables during school holidays. After leaving school, Marian went to work in the Caernarfonshire and Anglesey (C&A) Hospital as a cleaner and worked her way up to Hospital Manager when the new Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital opened. Marian then left to work in a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where she made many good friends and enjoyed adventurous holidays, including an elephant safari in Thailand, loop di loop plane rides and a trip to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. After a number of years, Marian left Saudi, returned to the UK, and worked at a Country Club outside of London. After becoming pregnant with her son, Declan, Marian returned home to Bangor to raise Declan, with the assistance of her mother. Working at a pub in Bangor, Marian met her future husband, whose job brought the two of them to Elizabethtown, North Carolina, in 2002.
Marian made Elizabethtown her home, where she took on many roles working with multiple families in the Elizabethtown area and became a friend to many. Marian cherished all of her friendships, with most becoming a second family to her. Marian was grateful for her friends who supported her throughout life’s challenges and celebrated life’s joys with her. Marian had a large heart for all animals and wildlife. Any animal needing food, shelter or companionship, need only to show up at her door and would be welcomed with loving arms. Marian will be remembered as charismatic, one who brought positivity and humor to all, and amused the world with her hilarious anecdotes. Marian was loved by all who were blessed to know her. Her life was filled with close and faithful friends from all over the world and everywhere she lived.
Marian was preceded in death by her son, Declan Meirion Owen, a devastating loss, as he was the joy of her life. Marian is survived by her sister, Frances Margaret Jones, and brother, David Owen.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, NC.
