Thirty people are expected to be sworn in as American citizens Saturday, April 22 at Moores Creek National Battlefield in Currie during a naturalization ceremony. The park’s annual Junior Ranger Day will take place following the ceremony.

People are encouraged to bring an American flag to the naturalization ceremony that is scheduled from 11 a.m. until noon. The event is being held in cooperation with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Guest speakers will include Ben Sorensen, who is a history instructor and International Center coordinator at Cape Fear Community College; Jim Buell, who is president of the Moores Creek Battleground Association; Moores Creek Battlefield Superintendent Matthew Woods; and USCIS staff.

The annual Junior Ranger Day will take place from noon until 3 p.m. Children and their families are invited to participate in hands-on history and learn about the National Park. This free event will include blacksmithing demonstrations, toys and games, colonial music, candlemaking, musket and cannon demonstrations, and more. Upon completion of their activities, children will be sworn in as official Junior Rangers and will receive a patch, badge, and certificate.
