Today, I saw why I am proud to be an American and a Veteran. At the Elizabethtown Christian Academy, I, along with hundreds of fellow Bladen Countians, including between fifty and one hundred veterans, witnessed a program put on by the children and staff of the academy to honor veterans and America.

Prayers and wonderful patriotic songs, along with addresses by many of the academy’s students, got me thinking as I sat there in the Baptist church sanctuary. This is one of the many reasons why I served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. As I’m sure, many of the other veterans would agree. To sit in an open assembly and watch our children, in freedom, taking part in a celebration of being an American and celebrating Veterans Day. I have never been so impressed as I was today to sit through this ceremony. It was a heartwarming time celebrating AMERICANA and the many liberties we as Americans enjoy. Thank you to the students, teachers, parents, grandparents, veterans, and the many friends of the Academy for a job well done. The cafeteria staff did an excellent job serving those who attended after the program was completed. Happy Veterans Day. We shall continue to celebrate until the 11 hours of the 11th day of the 11th month and on into the future.
