thoughts while shavingAs usual … a quick look at the weather … Yesterday’s recorded high at the local weather station … 87 degrees … and summer has not arrived.

This week is National Safe Boating Week … FYI … And, the National Weather Service has confirmed 7 tornadoes across our area this past Tuesday … 4 in Robeson county, 1 in Columbus County, and 2 just across the border with South Carolina, all with peak winds 75 mph or higher … 1 more in Bladen County with winds in the 65 mph range…

The Bladen County storm touched down about 5 miles south of Clarkton, near Coastal Farm, south of highway 701. continued northeast causing minor damage as it tracked a few hundred yards off Highway 701, eventually exiting near highway 211. Today, patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, sunny with a high near 90. Tonight, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy with a low around 68 and a 30% chance of precipitation…

Friday, a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m. Mostly sunny with a high near 90. Chance of rain is 50%. Same type weather thru next Tuesday … High daily upper 80s and low 90s…

Interesting note related to Scottie Scheffler, this year’s leading money winner on the PGA tour. He related that his dad was the stay home parent, mom earned the money … He has been the leading money winner on the PGA for the past few years … He and his bride just had their 1st child…

Best of luck to the East Bladen ladies soccer team … Coach Raynor and his staff leading them to the state quarterfinals…

Remember when the only local school sports were … men, football, basketball and baseball … and for ladies … softball and basketball … Many more options today…

So, what’s on your upcoming agenda … other than vacation … Where is your favorite vacation location? … beach? mountains? foreign country? Early ’50s in rural Bladen County, an afternoon trip to a nearby fishing hole, maybe a trip to a nearby mill pond for a ‘dip’…
