Bladenboro – The Town of Bladenboro will hold its annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Friday night, December 4th at 6:00 pm in downtown Bladenboro.  According to Don White, President of Boost the “Boro, Inc., “This is an all voluntary effort that has become an annual tradition in the town of Bladenboro for many years now and is held on the eve of the annual Bladenboro Christmas parade, which will be held this year  on  Saturday, December 5th.  Many of our town’s volunteers, town employees and various club members have been hard at work for several weeks decorating the town and preparing to make these events really special for the entire community to enjoy.”

The Christmas Tree Lighting will have special entertainment provided by Bladenboro’s own Brenda Storms, the New Light Praise Team and the Galeed Kids, as well as other excellent local talents.  Miss Bladenboro Haven Cashwell and Princess Anna Grace Allen will both be in attendance. The Bladenboro Rotary Club will be serving their traditional hot chocolate and New Light Church will provide freshly baked cookies at this event.  Ayven Lennon, a young man who is near to all of our hearts here in the Bladenboro community will join Mayor Duckworth in the ceremonial lighting of the tree.

This year, a donation box will be available for anyone who wants to share a little and make a kid’s wish come true. According to White, “All donations collected will be presented to the Chief of Police from our community and will go towards the “Christmas For Kids” program on December 15th.  If you can, try and support this effort with whatever you can give, pocket change, checks, or paper money….it will all make a difference. But even if you can’t, still come out and enjoy the entertainment, the special music, the fresh baked cookies and hot chocolate with your community and it’s all free of charge.”

Parking will be available in the First Citizens parking lot on Main Street or behind the Farmer’s market on Ashe Street.  Bleachers will be set up at the Bladenboro Farmer’s Market for you to enjoy and participate in the Christmas music or if you prefer, bring your own seating. Either way, we hope to see you all there on Friday night, December 4th at 6:00 pm.
