The town of Bladenboro was filled with the sounds of laughter, children at play and songs proclaiming the arrival of Christmas.

Folks young and old alike gathered at the Bladenboro Farmers Market to mark the arrival of the Christmas season with the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree. The farmers market was decked out in greenery, twinkling lights and a Christmas tree and cookies and hot chocolate were served.

Brenda Storms emceed the festivities which consisted of a brief welcome by Bladenboro Mayor Rufus Duckworth and sounds of the season.

Don White of Boost the ‘Boro addressed the crowd and informed them that the group has teamed up with the Bladenboro Police Department’s Christmas for Kids and a donation box was available for those who wished to contribute to the effort.

The carols and hymns warmed the evening as singers for the evening included the brother and sister duo of Megan and Jackson Pait, the Galeed Kids, Marlee Walters, Laurie Guyton and Belinda Carter, Miss Bladenboro Haven Cashwell, Princess of Bladenboro Anna Grace Allen, Ginger Jackson and Julia Deavers.

After the performances, the crowd moved to the town’s Christmas Tree located at the intersection of Main Street and Seaboard Street. The tall brightly lit tree was turned on by Duckworth and Ayven Lennon with assistance from the Bladenboro Royalty.

After the switch was thrown illuminating the evergreen tree, the crowd sung Silent Night.
