Congressman Robert Pittenger HeadshotWASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Robert Pittenger voted to freeze his salary and continue the 100 percent pay freeze for Members of Congress which has been in place since 2010.

“Every week we are fighting against wasteful bureaucratic spending and President Obama’s tax and spend policies,” said Congressman Pittenger (NC-09).  “We are leading by example.  Not only are we continuing the Congressional pay freeze, but today’s Legislative Branch appropriations includes a $153 million reduction from what President Obama proposed.”

The Legislative Branch Appropriations Act (H.R. 5325) funds Legislative Branch operations for FY2017, including funding for U.S. Capitol Police and necessary health and safety upgrades to aging infrastructure on the U.S. Capitol complex.

In addition, H.R. 5325 overturns a ban on sledding on Capitol Hill.

“Yes, we seriously had to take Congressional action to overrule some bureaucrat who said kids shouldn’t be allowed to have fun.  I’m a grandfather.  What do you expect?” commented Congressman Pittenger.

H.R. 5325 was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives by a bipartisan vote of 233-175.
