US-NationalWeatherServiceA heat advisory will be in effect for Bladen County beginning at noon today until 7 p.m. Heat index values will reach as high 108 due to temperatures climbing into the 90s.

The highest sustained heat index values will occur in the mid to late afternoon hours.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create situation in which heat-related illnesses can occur.

To reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses during the outdoor work or exercise, take frequent breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments and drink plenty of water.

Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles during the day. Temperatures inside a vehicle can reach as high as 140 degrees.

Outdoor livestock and pets need access to plenty of fresh water and plenty of shade in a well ventilated area.
