The Economist reported in June 2014 that U.S. student loan debt exceeded $1.2 trillion, with over 7 million debtors in default. I have nothing against a college education, but I know, personally, many young adults that have degrees in one thing or another, but have entry level positions in a field that has nothing to do with their degrees.
This is a shame. These same children could save themselves and their parents a bunch of money if they might have learned a trade instead of going to college.
Has anyone looked for a plumber lately in Bladen County? How about priced an electrician out per hour? There is no shame in learning a trade! I have known many successful people who graduated from high school and started their own trade business.
One fine example is my very own father. He started his own business, a glass shop, and did very well. No college degree there, but lots of honest hard work.
