FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Cape Fear Valley Health’s Information Services and Technology (IST) department has been made aware of an ongoing scam that is using a spoofed phone number of Cape Fear Valley’s Center Pharmacy. When the scammers will call a person, the call will appear to be from Center Pharmacy, but it is not. The scammers will then try to sell unprescribed medications to whoever answers the phone.

“Our outpatient pharmacies would never call people to solicit them to buy any medicines that we do not have a prescription on file for,” said Chief Information Officer Phill Wood. “If anyone receives a call purporting to be from any of our pharmacies where the caller is attempting to get personal information or sell any products, they should know it’s a scam and hang up.”

About Cape Fear Valley’s outpatient pharmacies

Cape Fear Valley has several outpatient pharmacies: Valley Pharmacy in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center; Center Pharmacy at 101 Robeson Street, Fayetteville; Pavilion Pharmacy at 6387 Ramsey St., Fayetteville; and Hoke Pharmacy at Hoke Hospital. All offer free home delivery of medications, free medication-compliance packaging, online refill ordering, vaccinations and more.

Cape Fear Valley’s pharmacy services are open to the general public, not just those patients seen at a Cape Fear Valley clinic or hospital. The pharmacies also offer medication compliance packaging, which conveniently organizes a patient’s medications into easy-to-use blister packs. This service saves patients time sorting pills by the day or week, and helps eliminate medication errors, such as skipping a dose or doubling up on a medication accidentally. To take part in the compliance pill packing program, a patient must have all of their prescriptions filled at the same pharmacy.

Pharmacy clients can also download Cape Fear Valley’s patient portal, MyChart, or use the Good Neighbor pharmacy app, to renew prescriptions online, day or night. Pharmacy staff will then notify patients via text or email when their prescription is ready.
